Care Guide

Tank Requirements:

Minimum tank size: 50 gallons (190 litres).

Temperature: 24–28°C (75–82°F).

pH: 7.8–8.6 (alkaline).

Substrate: Fine gravel or sand, mimicking the rocky lake environment.

Decorations: Include plenty of rocks and caves to create hiding spots and territories for these territorial fish.

Diet:

Omnivorous; feed a varied diet of high-quality cichlid pellets, flakes, and frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and vegetable matter like spirulina.

Tank Mates:

Best kept with other peaceful or moderately aggressive African cichlids, such as other species of peacock cichlids, mbunas, or large tetras. Avoid smaller, more delicate fish that may become targets of aggression.

Care Tips:

Keep in a species-specific tank or with similar-sized, non-aggressive fish to prevent territorial disputes.

Provide ample hiding places and space to avoid aggression.

Regular water changes and excellent filtration are crucial to maintaining stable water parameters.

The Malawi Peacock Cichlid’s dazzling colours and relatively peaceful nature make it a prized addition to cichlid aquariums, where its beauty and engaging behaviour provide endless enjoyment.
